Find your team
CTRL is a build club at Toronto Metropolitan University. Four teams, four applications. Pick the one you'd actually show up for — you can move between them later, and nobody is stuck where they started.
Four teams
Open teams take everyone. Selective teams run a 25-minute interview.
- selective
Dev
Write the software the club ships. One real project a term, published in November with your name on it.
- Systems & low-level
- Agents & evals
- Campus infrastructure
- Teardowns
- Product & UI design
- open
Events
Run the hackathons, debates and teardown nights. No technical background, no experience needed.
- Check-in & registration
- Setup and teardown
- Food and equipment
- Keeping the day on schedule
- open
Marketing
Everything CTRL does in public. Bring a link if you have one, or learn it here if you don't.
- Photo & video
- Graphics and posters
- Stories, reels, captions
- Running the account
- selective
Executive
Five roles. Whoever takes them decides what CTRL is before anyone outside has an opinion about it.
- Technology
- Events
- Marketing & brand
- Operations
- Treasurer
Before you ask
- Do I need to be in CS?
- No. Events and Marketing don't touch code at all, and half of what Dev builds is better with someone from outside the program on it.
- I'm a first year.
- Good. First years get onto Dev teams every term. We're looking for evidence you finish things, not that you already know things.
- Can I apply to two?
- Yes, but pick a first choice and say so. Applying to all four reads as applying to none.
- What if I have nothing to show?
- Events and Marketing don't ask. Dev does — but a half-finished repo counts, and so does a link to something you wrote.
